These are the 10 “Greenest” Cities for St. Patty’s Day

Build RealtyMarket News

Whether your home is green-certified or opens through a green door, these green cities will shamROCK your St. Patty’s Day.

St. Patrick’s Day is joyous, whether you celebrate because you’re Irish, want to feel lucky, or just need an excuse to order a few pints of Guinness.

But we’re taking feeling green a step further. Redfin is looking beyond wearing Patty’s pride quite literally on your sleeves, to determine the cities that are the very best for being green.

To do this, we ranked metro areas according to the percentage of all homes for sale that mention the keyword ‘green.’ This means we counted both the houses boasting sustainable materials and green design, as well as the listings that take pride in using verdant hues inside and out.

We also scoured Yelp’s API for the number of businesses categorized as Irish pubs in each of the top cities–this is still St. Patrick’s Day, after all–and added Redfin’s Transit Score®, to ensure that when you’re en route from your green home to drink your green beer, you’re doing it in the most environmentally-friendly way possible.

So pour yourself a bowl of Lucky Charms, tuck a four leaf clover behind the ear, and find out if you live in one of our green cities.

If yours didn’t make the cut, well, we wouldn’t blame you for feeling green with envy.

Rank Metro Area Share of Homes for Sale with “Green” in the Listing Description # of Irish Pubs Transit Score
1. Seattle, WA 9% 15 60
2. Madison, WI 7% 3 39
3. Phoenix, AZ 6% 3 36
4.. Denver, CO 6% 5 47
5. Portland, OR 6% 6 52
6. San Antonio, TX 5% 5 32
7. Austin, TX 5% 3 34
8. San Diego, CA 4% 5 37
